Denis Bachand Doctoral Scholarship
 
INTRODUCTION
The fund was created by Denis Bachand, a professor in the Department of Communication of the Faculty of Arts from 1980 to 2016. Professor Bachand was highly involved in the development of graduate studies, holding, successively, the positions of chair of graduate studies, director of the department, and Faculty vice-dean governance and secretary.   He is responsible for the creation of the Master’s in Communication and the Major in World Cinemas. His research and publications deal mainly with Quebec cinema.
                                       
PURPOSE OF FUND
To award a scholarship to a student in the PhD in Communication program who demonstrates a sustained commitment to students at the University of Ottawa, through one of the following: service to student organizations, research group initiatives, event organization (lectures, symposia, etc.), mentorship or other similar activities.
 
SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must:
  1.      be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status or an international student;
  2.      be registered full-time in the doctoral program in Communication at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ottawa;
  3.      demonstrate academic excellence; and
  4.       demonstrate a sustained commitment to students at the University of Ottawa.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
No application is required. The professors at the Department of Communication will be invited to forward their recommendations to the selection committee through the Chair of Graduate Studies.
