NAME OF ENDOWED FUND

RGA/MICHEL CLOUTIER MARKETING EXCELLENCE FUND

INTRODUCTION

Born in Quebec’s Beauce region, Michel Cloutier was the dean of the Faculty of Administration at the University de Sherbrooke until he decided to pursue his career in the private sector. He practiced his profession while working for Bombardier, La Presse, Gas Inter-Cité and First Choice, before returning to academic life at the University of Ottawa.

A founding member of the Regroupement des gens d’affaires (RGA), a speaker in high demand, a trainer of managers and a distinguished marketing consultant, a professor held in high regard by his students, and the founder of the Marketing Competition at the School, Michel Cloutier was always extremely active in the world of business, and he derived great satisfaction from bringing the business community and the university community closer together. In April 1991, when he was Associate Dean of the School of Management, he lost his battle with cancer.

In order to continue this mission of bringing the business and academic worlds together, the RGA / Michel Cloutier Excellence Fund was created to annually support such initiatives as the University of Ottawa Telfer School of Management’s Michel Cloutier Marketing Competition. Each year, the Telfer School of Management and the Marketing Association organize a business case competition for fourth year students specializing in marketing. The competition, which was originally introduced in 1986 by the late Professor Cloutier, a founding member of the RGA, was renamed in his honour in 1991. The purpose of the competition is to introduce students to the business community through work on a real marketing plan for a partner company. This competition gives them an opportunity to perfect and apply their marketing knowledge by working on real business cases. To the same end, the RGA/Michel Cloutier Excellence Fund also provides financial support to the marketing team that will represent the Telfer School of Management at the Jeux du Commerce.

PURPOSE OF FUND

Reward the winners of the annual Michel Cloutier marketing competition, provide financial assistance to the team selected to represent the University of Ottawa Telfer School of Management at the Jeux du Commerce, and contribute annually to activities that help bring Telfer School of Management students and the business community closer together.
