Alterna Savings Social Responsibility Program Fund

INTRODUCTION

The University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management and Alterna Savings share a common commitment and legacy in the national capital region, as they both have roots in public service. In addition to their roots, they share a commitment to developing young people and to providing an inspiring educational experience.

Alterna Savings and Credit Union Limited is a full service, member-owned, community-focused credit union. From trustworthy financial advice to local investment and support, Alterna Savings offers a fresh alternative to the 'Big Banks'. When you bank with Alterna Savings, you are not just a customer or a number, you’re a member. Being a member makes you an owner, which gives you a say in what your financial institution does and the way in which we operate. As a co-operative financial institution, our commitment to supporting the communities we serve is the foundation we’re built on. In fact, we have a long history of community and social responsibility activities going back to our earliest days. After all, we’ve been in the business of putting people and communities first for over 100 years, and have seen the benefits of community support first-hand. Alterna Savings is an Imagine Canada Caring Company, meaning that we donate 2% of our pre-tax profits back to the communities we serve. Half is provided by our Community Grants Program, and the other half, often more than one percent, is contributed through community partnerships and sponsorships, awards, our Micro-Finance Program and other activities. At Alterna Savings, going above and beyond for our local communities is always among our top priorities.

Alterna Savings believes in promoting and encouraging a student culture rich in commitment to social responsibility. This conviction inspired a partnership that will establish the Alterna Savings Social Responsibility Program at the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management.
