INTRODUCTION

This award honours Dr. Christa Zeller-Thomas, who studied and taught in the Department of English at the University of Ottawa from 2005 to 2012. Remembered for her beauty of mind and character, and for her unrelenting quest to attain academic excellence herself and foster it in others, she was never happier than when her students demonstrated the same commitment.

PURPOSE OF FUND

Award a prize to an undergraduate student for the best essay submitted to an English course in the academic year.

PRIZE DETAILS

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status or an international student;

  2. be registered as a full-time or part-time student at the University of Ottawa;

  3. be registered to an undergraduate course at the Department of English; and

  4. have submitted an essay on any aspect of literature or culture to fulfil a requirement of this course.

    APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Applicants should provide the graded copy and a clean, unmarked copy of their essay to their Professor or to the Chair of the Department of English. The paper must have been submitted for credit in the calendar year before this date and should not have been revised after being graded.
