Tadeusz Grygier Founder’s Graduate Prize

INTRODUCTION

The Tadeusz Grygier Founder’s Prize was established at the Department of Criminology in honour and memory of Dr. Tadeusz Grygier, an eminent erudite scholar/sailor and founder of the Department. The late Professor Grygier established the department with interdisciplinary programs, reflecting his passion for both academic research and the practical application of science-based criminological knowledge. He was one of the pioneers in criminology in Canada, with innovative contributions to psychological and criminological research, and instrumental in introducing the concept of restorative justice in Canada. Life experience, even more than books, made him an advocate of a fair, flexible and humanist justice.

 

PURPOSE OF FUND

Award a prize to the best student in the Master’s program or to the best student in the Ph.D. program who is entering the phase of writing their thesis, research paper or dissertation. The prize recognizes excellence and offers encouragement for future innovative research and policy formation in criminology.

 

PRIZE DETAILS

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must:

  1. be registered as a full-time student in the Master’s (even years) or Ph.D. (odd years)   program in Criminology;
  2. be entering the phase of writing his/her thesis, research paper or dissertation; and
  3. have the highest academic standing in his/her program (based on the CGPA).
    • Value of the award: Minimum $1,000
    • Number of awards: One

Frequency of the award:           Annual (the prize will be awarded to a Master’s student in even years and to a Ph.D. student in odd years)

  • Level or program of study: Undergraduate, Master’s and Ph.D.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

No application is necessary. The prize will be automatically awarded to the student who meet the above-mentioned eligibility criteria. Should more than one candidate meet the eligibility criteria, the selection of the recipient will be made by the Department of Criminology.
