Avie Bennett Prize in Canadian Literature
 
INTRODUCTION
This fund was established by the Bennett Family Foundation to mark McClelland and Stewart’s ninetieth anniversary. Since 1906, the company has been publishing the best in Canadian writing, including the prestigious New Canada Library, the first paperback series dedicated solely to Canadian literature. Founded in 1957, the New Canadian Library made possible the teaching of Canadian literature in our schools and universities.
 
PURPOSE OF FUND
To award a prize for the best undergraduate essay in Canadian Literature (English Language). 
 
SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must:
  1.       be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status or an international student;
  2.       be registered part or full-time in an undergraduate program at the University of Ottawa; and
  3.       submit an essay written in English on any subject in Canadian literature.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Applicants should provide the graded copy and a clean, unmarked copy of their essay to their Professor or to the Chair of the Department of English. The paper must have been submitted for credit in the calendar year before this date and should not have been revised after being graded.
