Professor Vern Krishna Scholarship

INTRODUCTION

Professor Vern Krishna, C.M., Q.C., F.R.S.C., LL.D., has taught at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, since 1981. He is an expert in the domain of tax law and has published extensively in the area. Professor Krishna has been a Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada since 1991. In June 2001 he was elected by his colleagues to serve a two year term as Treasurer of the Law Society of Upper Canada. He is the first law professor ever to serve as Treasurer. Professor Krishna is the Executive Director of the Tax Research Centre at the University of Ottawa and was the Executive Director of the National Committee on Accreditation, Federation of Law Societies of Canada from 1983 to 2009. In addition, among Professor Krishna’s many distinguished accomplishments, he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Fellow of the Certified General Accountants of Canada and a Member of the Order of Canada. The donor thanks the Government of Ontario who helped create this fund through its generous matching contributions.

PURPOSE OF FUND

To provide financial support to students in the English-language JD Program of the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section whose education would otherwise be compromised.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must:

1. be registered as full-time student in the English-language JD Program of the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section at the University of Ottawa;

2. be an Ontario resident, as per OSAP [2] rules;

3. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa;

4. demonstrate strong academic standing; and

5. demonstrate a genuine interest in income tax law and/or business law.

Note: Preference will be given to person with genuine interest in income tax law.

Value of the Award: Minimum $4,000
