NAME OF ENDOWMENT FUND (OSOTF [1] )

Jackie Larocque Violin Scholarship

INTRODUCTION

The fund was established in memory of Jackie Larocque by her daughters Cynthia, Maryse, Deirdre and Jocelyn, and friends and family. Born at the start of World War I, Jackie grew to adulthood during the Great Depression. She had a big musical talent, comfortable with both violin and piano. Violin training led her to play with the Ottawa Symphony in the 1930s, but she was never able to pursue her musical studies at the university level because of the financial impediments imposed by the advent of the Depression. Instead of continuing in school, she went to work to support herself and to help her family put her brother through university. Jackie wanted her daughters to have what she missed growing up in hard economic times - a chance at an advanced education. In that spirit, her daughters initiated a scholarship to perpetuate her name and her memory by providing support for talented violin students needing financial assistance.

The donor thanks the Government of Ontario, which helped create this fund through its generous matching contributions.
