Sibay Scholarship in Real Estate Law

INTRODUCTION

This scholarship was created by Godyne Sibay, a graduate of the Common Law Class of 1983, in appreciation for the excellent legal education she received at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section. In September 2003, L’expert Magazine and the National Post featured Ms. Sibay as one of the 15 "Up and Coming" Women Lawyers in Canada. She was a recipient of the prestigious NNCREW - 2000 National Networking Award. Ms. Sibay appears in Euromoney Legal Media Group's 2004 Guide to the World's Leading Real Estate Lawyers. She is a member of several professional and industry organizations, including the Ontario and Canadian Bar Associations, the Canadian Association of University Solicitors and the Toronto CREW (Toronto Commercial Real Estate Women). Ms. Sibay has also served as a panelist and speaker at various industry seminars including the International Council of Shopping Centres conferences. She received her B.Sc. in 1980 from the University of Toronto and her LLB in 1983 from the University of Ottawa. Ms. Sibay was called to the Ontario bar in 1985. The donor thanks the Government of Ontario for its matching contributions through its Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund program.

PURPOSE OF FUND

To provide financial assistance to students at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section who demonstrate financial need and who have an interest in real estate law.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must:

1. be registered as a full-time student in the 2nd year of the JD Program at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section of the University of Ottawa;

2. be an Ontario resident, as per OSAP rules;

3. be enrolled in CML2104 - Real Estate Law;

4. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa; and

5. demonstrate academic excellence.
