Scholarship in Arabic Studies

INTRODUCTION

This scholarship was established in 1982 by Professor Abdallah Obeid, founder of the Arabic Studies Program at the University of Ottawa.

PURPOSE OF FUND

To provide financial assistance to students in need who demonstrate a keen interest in the Arabic language and Arabic Studies

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must:

1. be registered as a full-time second or third-year student at the University of Ottawa;

2. have completed a minimum of three courses related to Arabic Studies (including at least one non-language course), with preference being given to students registered in the Arabic Studies minor;

3. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the University of Ottawa Financial Aid and Awards Service; and

4. demonstrate a keen interest in the Arabic language and Arabic Studies.

Note: Preference will be given to applicants whose mother tongue is not Arabic

Value of the Award: $500

Number of Awards: Two (one for a second-year student and one for a third-year student)

Frequency of the Award: Annual

Level of the Award: Undergraduate
