Scholarship and Research Bursary
The Canadian Slovak Benefit Society was founded in 1946. The Benefit Society published a Slovak-language newspaper, The Slovak Voice, for many years, allowing Canada?s immigrant community to stay current on the events in their homeland. The Benefit Society was active in the fight for the Slovak people?s right to self-governance, stressing patriotic and democratic principles, and organizing Slovak immigrants regardless of religious and political convictions. The second largest Slovak fraternal organization in Canada, the Canadian Slovak Benefit Society dissolved in 2005 after many years of service to the local community.
PURPOSE OF FUND
To provide financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of History who wish to study Slovak history and culture at the University of Ottawa; or to scholars who wish to do research in the Slovak Archives at the University of Ottawa.
The student applicant must:
1. be registered in the Department of History of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ottawa, with an interest in studying Slovak history and culture; and
2. demonstrate academic excellence.
External scholars must demonstrate professional interest in the use of the Slovak archives at the University of Ottawa.

Applications must be made through Online Scholarships and Bursaries, which can be accessed through https://scholarships.uottawa.ca.
External scholars must submit to the holder of the Chair in Slovak History and Culture a résumé, a detailed research proposal specifically outlining the anticipated benefit of access to the University of Ottawa Slovak Archives, and the financial request to complete their research.
