TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR AN ENDOWED FUND
TITLE OF ENDOWED FUND (OTSS )
Dr. Nawal Sarraf Sayegh Scholarship -
Arabic Program of Language and Culture
This fund was generously established by Dr. Nawal Sarraf Sayegh in 2011. Dr. Nawal Sarraf Sayegh has always been interested in social and cultural change. As a Palestinian Canadian citizen, she has a vested interest in both the Arab and Western cultures. She is a sociologist, philosopher, professor and author. She was the first instructor of the Arabic Culture course at the University of Ottawa. She advocates a philosophy of culture where there is a balance between the spiritual and material concerns through which a cultural conflict could be reduced and a cultural identity realized. The enthusiasm that was demonstrated by the students in her course led her to establish this scholarship with the hope it will enhance the student’s potential while studying the Arabic Language and Culture. In addition, the donor believes that giving to knowledge remains virtuous.
