TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR AN ENDOWED FUND

NAME OF ENDOWMENT FUND ( OSOTF [1] )

Orpheus Musical Theatre Society Scholarship

INTRODUCTION

This endowment fund was established by the Orpheus Musical Theatre Society. Founded in Ottawa in 1906 as a Glee Club, the Society has evolved over time to become one of Canada’s most successful community based companies. With three main productions totalling 30 performances a year, the Society provides opportunities to hundreds of residents of the National Capital Region to participate in all aspects of mainstream musical theatre. Many past members have gone on to highly successful careers in the performing arts and several are household names across North America. The Society wishes, through the Department of Theatre, to assist in the development of Canada’s pool of talent devoted to the dramatic arts. In so doing, the Society also wishes to provide tangible evidence of its appreciation for the support it has received from the Ottawa community for almost a century. The donor thanks the Alumni Association of the University of Ottawa and the Government of Ontario for their matching contributions.

PURPOSE OF FUND

To provide financial assistance to students from the Department of Theatre whose education would otherwise be compromised.
