NAME OF ENDOWMENT FUND

VIC POMER VIOLON ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP

INTRODUCTION

This fund was established in memory of Mr. Vic Pomer through the initiative of his wife, Mrs. Phyllis Pomer and the School of Music of the University of Ottawa.

Violin pedagogue, Victor Pomer, passed away suddenly in March 2001. He was a member of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra from 1949 until he came to Ottawa as a founding member of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in 1969. In 1959, Mr. Pomer received a Canada Council grant to study Russian String Pedagogy in the Kiev Conservatory and had over 50 years of teaching experience which culminated in the publishing of his book A Guide for Teachers: Preventing Physical Problems in Violin Playing. Vic Pomer gave generously to the School of Music as teacher, jury member and scholarship committee advisor.

All proceeds from the sale of Mr. Pomer’s book in addition to concert proceeds resulted in the creation of this scholarship fund.
