French Studies Bursary
 
PURPOSE OF FUND
The objective of this fund is to provide financial assistance to a newly admitted student who is undertaking the university studies for the first time by encouraging studies in French or in French Immersion.
 
SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, you must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or have protected person or refugee status;
  2. fulfill the admission requirements of the faculty in question (Arts, Engineering, Health Sciences, Science, Social Sciences, Telfer School of Management or the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section);
  3. be registered full time*(1), and for the first time, in an undergraduate program in a direct-entry faculty or in the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section;
  4. Each term take at least:
  • 9 credits(2) (i.e., 3 courses) taught in French,(3) or
  • 6 credits(2) (i.e., 2 courses) taught in French,(3) or in French as a second language (FLS) if you are in French immersion.
 
NOTE (1): CO-OP students receive their installment only when they are enrolled in a study term.

NOTE (2): Mature applicants and university transfers are not eligible for this scholarship.
 
RENEWAL CRITERIA  
This scholarship can be renewed for three years following your first year of study as long as you meet certain renewal criteria.
 
As you began your first year of studies in September 2014 or later, you must:
  1. Remain registered full-time*(1) in a direct-entry faculty or in the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section
  2. Each term take at least:
  • 9 credits(2) (i.e., 3 courses) taught in French,(3) or
  • 6 credits(2) (i.e., 2 courses) taught in French,(3) or in French as a second language (FLS) if you are in French immersion.
  1. Have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 5.5 or higher at the end of each academic year.(4)

 
 
(1) Temporary interruption of your studies or registering part time or as a special student will lead to your scholarship being revoked for the rest of your studies.
 
(2) Some exceptions may apply to students participating in an international exchange or in a program where they cannot take the required number of credits in French.
 
(3) Only the course codes whose second digit is 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 0 (e.g. ADM1700) are used in calculating the number of credits taught in French.
 
(4) If your CGPA is below 5.5 at the end of an academic year, your scholarship will not be renewed.  However, if your CGPA meets or exceeds the 5.5 minimum at the end of the following academic year, you can receive the full amount of the award again. This does not apply to students who started their first year of studies in Winter 2014 or earlier.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
There is no application for this award. This bursary is awarded automatically to eligible students who enroll in a French program or in French Immersion Studies. This bursary can be combined with any admission scholarship or bursary except for the Education Bursary.
