INTRODUCTION

This fund was established in 2003 by family and friends in memory of Donald Metcalfe. Donald Metcalfe was a man for whom music was a way of life. Donald was born in Ottawa, August 19, 1940, and he subsequently spent most of his life in this city. He attended Glebe Collegiate where he was identified as a gifted student demonstrating high ability in verbal, mathematical and music skill. In his early years, he performed in local bands and orchestras. He had a particular talent for arranging music that was highly regarded by the musicians with whom he worked. Throughout his life, he was a student of music and an avid patron of the performing arts, orchestra, opera, ballet and theater. He kept a record of the several thousands of concerts dthat he attended in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. His knowledge and experience of dmusic was shared with many friends and respected by musicians and music critics. Donald Metcalfe died of a heart attack on September 12, 2002.
