NAME OF ENDOWED FUND

Olga Somcynsky Scholarship

INTRODUCTION

This scholarship was generously created by Micheline Beaudry-Somcynsky, a Faculty of Arts alumna, in honour of her sister-in-law Olga Somcynsky. The Somcynskys came to Canada having fled war three times (during the Bolshevik rule in Russia, the Second World War in Europe and the civil war under Peron in Argentina, where they had found refuge). With the support of the Léger Foundation, they finally found peace and safety in Montreal, and Olga and her brothers were able to pursue their studies. She was thus able to fulfill her dream of teaching disadvantaged children. Olga was also passionate about music. A faithful subscriber to concert series in Montreal and Quebec City, she amassed an impressive collection of music over the years. The Olga Somcynsky Scholarship honours her two passions, education and music.
